People often arrive at a first consultation slightly braced, expecting something like a GP appointment: describe the symptom, receive the prescription, out in ten minutes. A homeopathic case-taking is a different animal. Expect to talk for well over an hour, and expect questions no doctor has ever asked you.
The timeline
I take a timeline from conception, if possible, through to the present day. I’m looking for the significant moments in your life — emotional and physical — that created the tapestry of who you are: illnesses, losses, shocks, moves, the things that changed you. I’m like Inspector Morse, hunting around and asking all sorts of questions.
Your history — and your family’s
I also take a drugs history — everything from childhood antibiotics to current prescriptions — and a family history, so we can see what ailments run in the gene pool. None of this is idle curiosity. The complaint that brings you in is often the tip of the iceberg, and the picture underneath is what guides the choice of remedy.
The questions that surprise people
Do you sleep on your left side or your right? Do you crave salt or sweet? Are you worse in the morning or the evening, in heat or in cold, alone or in company? In homeopathy these odd little details matter, because two people with the same diagnosis may need completely different remedies. The remedy is matched to you, not to the label on your condition.
The remedy
At the end — or sometimes after I’ve had time to study your case — I’ll give you a remedy, usually small pills, with clear instructions on how to take them. Homeopathic remedies are gentle and non-toxic, and they’re taken alongside whatever your doctor has prescribed, never instead of it.
The follow-up
A few weeks later we meet again, usually for less time, and go through what’s shifted — in the complaint itself, but also in sleep, energy and mood, which are often the first things to move. Working this way is a process: we go in search together, taking layer after layer off the onion, to find the heart and the truth so as to live more of your life in harmony.
How to prepare
- Set aside a couple of hours so you’re not watching the clock.
- Jot down your rough medical timeline — operations, illnesses, medications, big life events and their dates.
- Bring a list of anything you currently take, prescribed or otherwise.
- Don’t rehearse. The unguarded details are usually the useful ones.
First consultations happen in person in North London or by WhatsApp video or FaceTime. If you’re wondering whether homeopathy fits what you’re carrying, the conditions page shows what clients commonly bring, and you can always call me for a chat first.
Homeopathy is a complementary approach: it sits alongside, and never replaces, the care of your GP or hospital team. If you have new, severe or worrying symptoms, please see your doctor or call NHS 111 first — and keep taking any prescribed medication unless your prescriber tells you otherwise.
